Reflection for Friday of the Fifth Week of Lent
There can be a presumption at times — well, many times — that one knows more than what Scripture offers. Or that one must always offer unique perspectives, that is, my perspective. Our readings today offer an opportunity to let Scripture speak for itself. Take a few lines to let us see what God wants to directly speak to our hearts about:
“But the LORD is with me, like a mighty champion: my persecutors will stumble, they will not triumph.”
We are called to trust wholeheartedly in God because he is with us. Never are we left alone, we feel like it at times, sure, but God in ways unseen, fights for us and strengthens us against those who desire to hurt us. In the end, God triumphs, not our enemies.
“In my distress I called upon the Lord, and he heard my voice.”
Always turn to God. Turn to him when you are distressed, distressed about work, about the future, about your spouse, or your children; turn to him in sickness and in health, in good times and in bad. The Lord hears us.
“And many there began to believe in him.”
The witness of our response to what is written above will bring those around us to belief in Jesus Christ. Jesus’ miracles working in our lives still change hearts and minds in the midst of confusion and suffering. Radiate his life in you and, through you, the world will change.
Reflection: Take time to ask yourself, do I truly trust in God in the midst of my struggle? If not, why not? If so, what blessings have you received?
