As monks of Conception Abbey, our primary way of seeking God is through our life of prayer. Our daily encounter with God in prayer is at the heart of all our works, and through this prayer, Conception Abbey becomes an oasis of peace, a help to others who strive to seek God amid busy and noisy lives.
The fruits of our work are evident in the lives of those who encounter us. Toni Hamera, an Oblate of our monastery, first came to Conception Abbey in the eighth grade and immediately discovered this was a place where she could have “a profound experience of peace” and “a place where I could connect with God.” Years later, she reconnected with us while discerning how God was calling her to holiness.
“Conception Abbey is my spiritual home. I find peace in the structure of monastic prayer and a sense of direction in the Rule of St. Benedict. I feel like I have this real connection to the community through my commitment as an Oblate, the retreats I take up there, and my relationship with the monks.”
When asked why she continues to support us, Toni replied, “I feel like I’m part of the community at Conception Abbey, and when you’re part of the community, you have to support them – whether financially or with your prayers.” By your prayers and financial contributions, you too become part of our community.
Prayer fuels our work and feeds our souls. I hope that in partnering with us, you too may feel transformed and refueled in your daily life. Join us this Lenten season as we strive to seek God more fully in all that we do, especially in our mission of prayer.
